A U.S. Senate committee is scheduled to hold a hearing at 2 p.m. today on strategies to improve the federal Chesapeake Bay Program to clean up the nation's largest estuary. Stay tuned for Bay Daily coverage later this afternoon.
I asked readers of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Facebook page what they would do to improve the cleanup of the Bay, if they were the Bay Czar.
Here are the responses I received:
* I think taking a look at upstream, at the Watershed, is a good way to determine if any pollution going downstream needs contained.
* I would hope they would continue cracking down on polluters upstream and in states that don't even border the bay that put terrible things into rivers that flow here. Another concern I have is about all the septic tanks that have been allowed along the bay. Why isn't there investment in more responsible sewage treatment plants - and prevention of existing plants from dumping and overflowing into our bay.
