Thousands of people turned out for two dozen “Green Drinks” events and other celebrations in the Chesapeake Bay region around Earth Day, in locations from Charlottesville, Virginia (pictured at left), to Annapolis and Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
A major theme emphasized by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and other activists was the need for stronger federal laws to guarantee clean water for all.
About 700 people who attended these events signed post cards to their Congressional representatives demanding support for the Chesapeake Clean Water Act, which would set firm legal limits on the amount of pollution flowing into the Bay and impose penalties on states that fail to meet these goals.
