Our 2007 crop plans
by Carrie Vaughn
Each winter we make big plans for everything we'll plant in the year to come. I'm overcome with irrational optimism with occasional waves of dread. Generally we expect about 80% of what we plant in the ground to successfully produce a crop that makes it to your table. Depending on whether I'm feeling optimistic or dreadful, that might seem like it's right on the mark or too high.
Ocassionally someone wants to know details about which varieties we're planting and how much. For those of you interested enough to try to make sense of my spreadsheet, you're more than welcome to check it out. I've tried to attach it below as an Open Office document (you can download this software for free from the web) and an Excel document (I think it worked--let me know if it didn't).

Oh hooray, I am excited about cauliflower, and stevia! (my cat has spent all winter eating my stevia plant, which is wasting away indoors)
What is CUlantro?
Sending you much adorement, see you when it's warmer,
love Tricia
Tricia-
Culantro is an herb offered by Johnny's Seeds that tastes just like cilantro. The difference is that cilantro grows only in cool weather, while culantro grows in the summer. My plants haven't been especially productive in the past, but since it prefers the shade, I thought some of you might enjoy growing it in your homes. Unfortunately, I can't even seem to get them to germinate, at the moment. Hopefully I'll have more success with your stevia!

Am I correct that there will be no corn this year? Searching through the crop plans I can find popcorn but no sweet corn. Please tell me I am mistaken!
Fred--yes, we did order lots of sweet corn. That is Rob's purview, so I hadn't included it in my plan. --Carrie
