This Week's Share: Plus No Shares Next Week + What's On U-Pick For the Next Two Weeks

(This photo from CSA Member Krossbow on Flickr

Happy Tuesday.

Just a reminder: there are no CSA shares next week, meaning that there will be no vegetable pick-up on Tuesday, July 3 or Saturday, July 7. As we shared last week, the most frequently asked question about this skip week is how it will affect those who plan to take double shares either the week before or after. Here's the answer! If you take a double share at your pick up for the June 26/30 harvest, this means you will skip at your pick-up for the July 10/14 shares. And on the flip side of that, if you opt to not pick up at the June 26/30 shares, you can take a double on July 10/14. There will be some u-pick that week -- we'll share details on that next week. If you need further clarification on that, let me know and I'll get you an answer!  Though we won't have shares next week, we will have u-pick. Details are included below.

And now, here's what you'll find in Week 8 of the CSA:

  • 1 head garlic
  • 1 1/2 pounds total peas + onions
  • 1/2 pound beans + Swiss chard
  • 5 1/4 pounds squash + cabbage + cucumbers (max of 1 3/4 pounds cucumber)

On U-Pick this week:

This U-Pick list is good for this week and next week and the week of July 2. Though we won't have shares on July 3 or July 7, you are welcome to come to the farm to u-pick.

If you want to come and u-pick, you can find a map of the fields and locations at the Wash Station when you arrive at the farm, denoting where to find the fields listed below. Here's what's on offer this week.

  • New this week: Peas + Beans (beans are a long walk from the wash station) + Zucchini
  • Kholrabi
  • Kale and collards from the D field.
  • Spicy Mix + other salad greens (spicy mix is a long walk)
  • Swiss chard
  • Radishes + Turnips (these are a very long walk away from the wash station.)
  • Herbs: Basil. Plus Oregano, onion chives, garlic chives, sage, sorrel, thyme, lemon balm, lavender. And there's now a fair amount of cilantro available! And there's dill now, as well.
  • Any flowers are always fair game.

We also expect to add cucumbers and yellow summer squash to the u-pick list for next week.

A preview of what's to come:

When we resume the season on July 10, we expect to have more onions and beans. We expect that tomatoes and peppers will be either the week of July 10 or the week of July 17 (their growth has slowed with the lack of rain). We'll see what shape the salad greens are in in two weeks. We'll also have squash, cabbage, and cucumbers when we're back.

In the meantime, do you have questions? Comments?

Leave them here on the blog!
