Maryland Master Naturalist Training

I had heard of the Maryland Master Gardener program, but I hadn't realized you can also be a Master Naturalist.  University of Maryland Extension holds trainings in different parts of the state, and there a few coming up that might be close enough to interest some of you.

  • Brookside Gardens, in Montgomery County, will hold a training March 23-May 10 on alternating Fridays and Saturdays, 9am-4pm.
  • There will be one at the Calvert County Extension office, in Prince Frederick, February 11-May 20 on Monday evenings (6-9:30pm) with a few Saturday field trips.

Their main web site is,, where you'll find the application form and more details.

Instruction includes identification  of our regional plants and animals, examination of ecological principals, geological formation of the landscape, and more.

Table of 2012 shares by month

We've just sent e-mails to all of our 2012 CSA members asking you all to tell us what you thought of your shares.  Did you get the e-mail?  If not, and you were a CSA member, click to the survey here:  And please send us a note to let us know you didn't get the survey.  We want to make sure you get an invitation in January to sign  up for the 2013 season.

Sometimes it's hard to remember what was in your shares each week.  Of course, you can go back through the blog and read what we posted each week.  But to give you a quick, visual reminder, here's a chart:  Download 2012 per month share summary

Raffle winner: Sioban Reyes

Congratulations!  Sioban won our raffle for a 2013 share.

Everyone who purchased on-line was given paper tickets (one ticket for each $10 donation), and we added them to the ones purchased in person.  Altogether it was 142 tickets.  Michael Heller closed his eyes, reached into the basket and chose a winner.  Now the Reyes household can let us know which pick-up site they want.

Thank you everyone!  This raffle allows us to offer three half-price shares--that's a full season of produce for 3 families in need.
