Herb and flower beds--volunteers needed

 
Do you raise flowers at home?  Do you have a knack for landscape design? 

We are looking for someone who would like to help choose the flowers and herbs for the you-pick beds behind the washing station.  We need help designing which herbs and flowers to go where, choosing varieties, planning when and how they will be planted, and directing other volunteers each week to do the bed preparation, planting, weeding and other maintenance.  We can exchange each four hours of work for a share.  If you're interested, send an e-mail to clagettfarm@cbf.org.

In addition to a person taking charge of the beds, we can also use weekly help maintaining them.  The bulk of the work will be forking up new beds and weeding the established ones.  You can name which days and hours you would like to help, but we need people who will work quickly and effectively even when we are not there to help and encourage.

Now hiring field workers for this summer

April 4, 2011:  We're finished our interviews for this season and are no longer accepting new candidates.  We'll start over again February 2012.  Give yourself a leg-up now, by doing a "workshare" so we can get to know you. 

We are in the process of lining up our staff for the 2011 growing season.  If you know anyone who is interested raising vegetables in the fields with us, please direct them to our job posting: http://community.cbf.org/Page.aspx?pid=542.  This year, we are paying $10 per hour plus one CSA share.  We have openings for both full and part time, April through November.  We do not offer housing.  It's a lot of fun, but it's tough work.  Only people who love working outside and have an even, friendly temperament should apply.
 

New member sign-up successful

We were relieved that our sign-up of new members went smoothly.  There were only a couple panicked, last-minute calls.  Perhaps because Saturday night is a peculiar time to think about your CSA, not as many people requested a share this year as last.  So everyone's chances of getting a share were much higher. 

Everyone who signed up should have heard from us by now, so if you haven't, please let us know.  If you are interested in becoming a member for 2012, send us an e-mail to clagettfarm@cbf.org, and we'll send you an e-mail next winter when we have shares to offer again.

Sign-up is TOMORROW NIGHT for new CSA members

Anyone who would like to be a new member in our CSA this year should sign up on-line at www.cbf.org/clagettsignup, between 8:00pm and 8:10pm Saturday night.  We will ask you for your name, address, e-mail address, phone number, and your choice of pick-up site (Clagett Farm Tuesdays, Clagett Farm Saturdays or Dupont Tuesdays). 

We will also ask you if you qualify for a reduced-price share for low-income households, although qualifying households should take note that we don't sell out of half-price shares for pick-up at the farm, so your entry will be pulled out of the drawing and handled seperately.  You can see qualifications in the "Reduced Price Shares" section of www.cbf.org/clagettprices.

We will choose randomly from all everyone who fills out and submits the form by 8:10pm.   

We have 5 open slots for new members who wish to pick-up near Dupont Circle in Northwest DC.  We have 37 open slots for people new members picking up at our farm in Upper Marlboro, MD. 

There's always a few people with trouble submitting their form.  You can reach us Saturday night by e-mail at clagettfarm@cbf.org. 

If you will be busy or might not have internet access on Saturday evening, you can find a friend to fill in the form for  you.  There's no need to pay until we offer you a share, so anyone can fill in your name, e-mail address and pick-up site.  Last year someone called from her hospital bed!  That's crazy.  If you're in the hospital, get some rest and let someone else fill out the form for you. 

Just remember, it doesn't matter how quickly you submit the form, as long as you get it in within 10 minutes.  So don't panic.  Take a deep breath.  Even a really slow internet connection can transfer that bit of data within 10 minutes.
