There will be a share next week. In past years, we've had a "skip" week around the beginning of July but since this season started late, there will be no skip week this year. The pick-up will happen as usual.

Wednesday is share day, so here's what's in this week's share:

  • 1 head of garlic
  • 3 1/2 pounds total combination green cabbage + zucchini + cucumbers
  • 1 pound total combination turnips + kohlrabi
  • 1/2 pound total combination carrots + kale + collards
  • 1/2 pound total combination Swiss chard + green onions

What's on U-Pick:

  • HerbsBasil. We have lime basil, anise basil, cinnamon basil, Thai basil, spicy globe basil and holy basil. Plus lots of herbs available for cutting, including anise hissop, mint, marjoram, chamomile (there’s a lot there, and one of you really needs to pick and dry all those flowers for tea), sorrel, sage, garlic chives, onion chives that are blooming, thyme, cilantro, savory, lavender and nigella flowers.

What's coming up in the share:

You can expect a head of garlic every week moving forward. Red cabbage and carrots are coming but are still pretty small, so it may be 2 weeks until we see both of those. A variety of summer squash will be in next week's share, along with more cucumbers and more turnips. Kohlrabi is done for the season. The kale and collards are starting to fade - we don't expect them to last long. Swiss chard is still going strong. Next week, we'll also likely see some more onions (some bunching onions, some sweet onions).

And with that, it's pick-up day. Here's what you need to know about this week's share:

What's in this week's share:

  • 5 1/2 pounds zucchini + kohlrabi
  • 1 pound total combination Chinese cabbage + collards + bunching onions + kale + Swiss chard
  • 1/4 pound basil + carrots + bok choy + mustard greens of various kinds
  • 1 pound total combination carrots + turnips + cucumbers + garlic scapes

What's on U-Pick:

  • New: Kohlrabi! There's a bunch of it.
  • Strawberries -- still on u-pick but they're sparse.
  • Mulberries are ripe and still available.  Some trees ripen black, others white.  You’ll know they’re ripe when they are soft and fall easily from the tree.
  • Herbs: new: Basil.

Here's a rough idea of what you can expect next week: more kohlrabi, zucchini, turnips, cucumbers, garlic scapes, basil and carrots. No bok choy next week. Things we're keeping an eye on: the greens and green cabbage.

Strawberry cuties

It's Wednesday, which means it's CSA share day!

Here's everything you need to know for this week's CSA Pick-Up:

What's in this week's share:

Here's what you can expect this week:

  • 4 pounds total combination garlic scapes + Kohlrabi + turnips (hakurei, purple top, and scarlet ohno) + zucchini
  • 1/2 pound total combination Tokyo bekana + tender greens + mizuna + arugula + spicy mix + lettuce + basil + bok choy
  • 3/4 pound total combination chard + kale + collards
  • For Dupont (1  pint strawberries) -- if you pick up at the farm strawberries are plentiful and on u-pick. We can assist those of you at the farm who may be unable to pick your own.

Recipe Ideas:

Kholrabi may maybe foreign territory for some of you. We have an excellent collection of Kohlrabi recipes for how to use it!

What's on U-Pick:

Strawberries -- there are lots of strawberries, and we're removing the restrictions. Check the board at the wash station for where to pick them. Come and get 'em!

Mulberries are ripe.  Some trees ripen black, others white.  You’ll know they’re ripe when they are soft and fall easily from the tree.  There are quite a few trees along the driveway as you go from the washing station to Ritchie Marlboro Road.

Kale and Collards and Swiss Chard. We're switching the fields, so check the board. This is a great time to pick kale and collards -- as the heat intensifies, they will get more bitter. Now is a great time to pick them!

Garlic Scapes!

Herbs: lots of herbs available for cutting, including anise hissop, mint, marjoram, chamomile (there’s a lot there, and one of you really needs to pick and dry all those flowers for tea), sorrel, sage, garlic chives, onion chives that are blooming, thyme, cilantro, savory, lavender and nigella flowers.

What's coming up in the share:

Here’s our best guess for what's coming up:

  • Arugula, spicy mix, other mustard greens. More chard, kale, collards and scarlett ohno turnips. More purple top turnips, kholrabi, scapes and zucchini.
  • Things we're uncertain about: strawberries (we'll see how they do over the next week), lettuces, cucumbers (should be here in 1 or 2 weeks) and cabbage (looking like it'll be 2 weeks from now)

Clay Meet and Greet Hay Ride

Happy Wednesday! Here's everything you need to know for this week's CSA Pick-Up:

What's in this week's share:

Here's what you can expect this week:

  • ¼ pound: lettuce + arugula + spicy mix + Tokyo bekana
  • ¾ pound: baby bok choi + collards + kale + swiss chard
  • 1 pound: purple-top turnips + hakurei turnips + garlic scapes + the first few kohlrabi (more to come!)
  • Your choice of a pint of sugar snap peas or strawberries

What's on U-Pick:

Strawberries are still on the list, with the same restrictions as last week:  no picking Wednesdays before 3pm, Saturdays before 1pm,  Tuesdays or Fridays.  Also, they’ve been picked pretty heavily, so plan to go easy on them this week. We can all share!

Mulberries are ripe.  Some trees ripen black, others white.  You’ll know they’re ripe when they are soft and fall easily from the tree.  There are quite a few trees along the driveway as you go from the washing station to Ritchie Marlboro Road.

Kale and Collards We have them in 2 fields.  If there aren’t enough in Field B3 for your tastes, let us know.  We could put the other field on the list next week, but it will need extra signage to prevent people from accidentally stripping the leaves off the cabbage plants (which would make us very sad).

Herbs: anise, hissop, mint, marjoram, chamomile (there’s a lot there, and one of you really needs to pick and dry all those flowers for tea), sorrel, sage, garlic chives, onion chives that are blooming, thyme, cilantro, savory, lavender and nigella flowers.

What's coming up in the share:

Our predictions have been a little faulty lately, but here’s our best guess for next week:

  • New: Zucchini
  • Continued: Various salad greens, both lettucy and mustardy, bok choi, kale, collards, swiss chard, turnips, kohlrabi, strawberries, peas
  • Uncertain:  Garlic scapes still, or garlic bulbs? Carrots?
